It's Friday The 13TH!! 😱

Listen to this article

Friday The 13th

Yes, it's Friday the 13th which, for those movie buffs among us with a superstitious disposition, means it's already a scary day. And with Halloween just around the corner, we thought we would turn up the fear in you all just a little bit more by showing you some of our favourite scary movie railway scenes.

Ghostbuster II

So, sit back, hold on tight and enjoy the ride. Arriving at the first stop is our first on the itinerary - Man On A Train!

Man On A Train

Man On A Train

This is only a short horror, but not any less scary than the scariest of full-length movies!

“Man on a Train” is a quick and efficient horror. Directed by Jack Shanks, “Man on a Train” clocks in at four-and-a-half minutes without a single wasted second.

What we love is the complete lack of depth or backstory. A woman (Tameka Mortimer) takes a seat on a train. It’s a mundane daily routine and no further explanation is required. She takes in the faces of her fellow passengers. She was eavesdropping on a conversation between two girls and a man on a phone. She’s a regular person and it’s a regular day. We can relate to the emotionless charge of a commuter passenger. Mortimer’s demeanour quickly adjusts as the voices of her fellow riders ominously fade away and she finds herself alone...Maybe!

“Man on a Train” isn’t breaking any barriers. It is a quick and simple horror that just works.

Watch the full version of Man On A Train below. Although, we would advise against watching this on a train...at night...alone...

Ghost

Ghost

Believe it or not, Ghost was released way back in 1990! Watch the movie now and it kind of shows as the effects used in the film now seem rather rough to say the least.

After a young man is murdered, his spirit stays behind to warn his lover of impending danger, with the help of a reluctant psychic.

From the ominous blast of music introducing the title, you know this is not going to be sunshine and rainbows, the opening scenes establish the characters and there is already a sense of foreboding as we watch this happy young couple starting their life together in a great New York apartment. There are definite hints of something in the dialogue, which only adds to the build-up. OK so it’s not hard to guess what’s coming, I mean it’s in the title, but the hows and whys are what make this movie and make it so much more than just a chick flick.

One of the most memorable scenes for most, other than the infamous pottery scene of course, is the train scene. "GET OFF MY TRAIN!" Take a look...

Ghostbusters II

Ghostbusters II

"GHOST TRAIN IS COMING!"

Having lost their status and credibility five years after covering New York City with gooey roasted marshmallows in the original Ghostbusters movie released in 1984, the city's former heroes and once-popular spirit-hunters struggle to keep afloat, forced to work odd jobs. However, when Dana and her baby have yet another terrifying encounter with the paranormal, it is up to Peter Venkman and his fearless team of supernatural crime fighters to step up and save the day.

Once more, humankind is in danger, as rivers of slimy psycho-reactive ectoplasm, paired with the dreadful manifestation of evil sixteenth-century tyrant Vigo the Carpathian, threaten to plunge the entire city into darkness. Is the world ready to believe? Can the Ghostbusters save us for the second time?

The clip, titled "Ghost Train Is Coming!" features our favourite paranormal investigators down in an abandoned subway in search of a river of slime. The three begin goofing around by shouting out into the darkness to hear the echoes return. When Winston calls out, however, no echo calls back. Instead, a deep voice ominously calls back to him. Moments later, several heads on spikes surround them before disappearing abruptly. Upon making a decision to retrieve their proton packs before continuing their search, a massive translucent train comes barreling through the subway going straight through poor Winston.

Try watching the scene below without chuckling to yourself while feeling a little disturbed simultaneously!

Scream VI

Scream VI

Following the latest Ghostface killings, the four survivors leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.

In Scream VI, Melissa Barrera ("Sam Carpenter"), Jasmin Savoy Brown ("Mindy Meeks-Martin"), Mason Gooding ("Chad Meeks-Martin"), Jenna Ortega ("Tara Carpenter"), Hayden Panettiere ("Kirby Reed") and Courteney Cox ("Gale Weathers") return to their roles in the franchise alongside Jack Champion, Henry Czerny, Liana Liberato, Dermot Mulroney, Devyn Nekoda, Tony Revolori, Josh Segarra, and Samara Weaving.

So, the kids are back, but so is the masked murderer that hunts them. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s (aka Radio Silence) newest chapter in the “Scream” franchise finds the latest generation of Woodsboro survivors setting up a new life in New York City, far away from the suburban shadow of Ghostface. Unfortunately, their peace is short-lived. This is, after all, “Scream VI.”

Check out the scene below and try not to remember it the next time you're on the underground and the lights flicker off!

Friday The 13TH: Jason Takes Manhattan

Friday The 13th

And today of all days, at the end of the line and last on our list is Friday The 13TH.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan is a 1989 slasher film and is the eighth sequel to the original Friday the 13th.

Mass murderer Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder) is resurrected from the bottom of Crystal Lake. After he kills a passing boat's occupants, he stows away on a cruise ship filled with a high-school graduating class bound for New York City. Biology teacher Charles McCulloch (Peter Mark Richman) is on board with his niece, Rennie (Jensen Daggett), who has visions of Jason drowning as a child. They escape his bloody shipboard rampage, but, when Rennie and Charles reach Manhattan, Jason is close by.

Watch the clip below when Jason takes the subway for the first time chasing after Rennie and Sean, he ends up getting electrocuted on train tracks, but does this put an end to Jason? We don't think so!

These are just a few of the many scary movies that include a railway scene. So if you're planning a train journey on Friday the 13th, be careful. You never know who, or what is lurking in the shadows!
